Garbage & Recycling

Garbage Can

Garbage must be placed in the trash receptacle provided in the kitchen and unsorted recycling in the blue bin below the sink.

When full or on ideally only Monday prior to 8am, please take garbage to the garbage corral at the end of the driveway for pickup (but spray the INSIDE of the bag with ammonia that can be found under the sink). Be sure to CLOSE the lid on the can and close the corral fully to prevent bears from helping themselves. Follow instructions below on what to do to the garbage to prevent damage to the garbage corral.

Garbage Pickup

Garbage pick-up is ONLY on Monday, and recycling is Friday mornings (prior to 8am).

Please be sure to securely close and lock the corral to help prevent bears from raiding the garbage and making a big mess (yes bears). See the videos below for opening & closing the corral (which is located at the end of our driveway)

As we're in the woods, we do have large furry friends (big bears) that like to visit our garbage corral. For your safety, their safety and the community, please do your best NOT to put out garbage until Monday mornings at 7am. If you must put garbage out earlier than that is imperative that you mask the scent with the ammonia we've provided in a spray bottle that can be found under the sink and also at the garbage corral .

Please HEAVILY spray the bag of garbage (inside where food remnants may be) AND the trash can you place it in too. If it smells too obnoxious to you while you're spraying that's a good thing as it will deter the bears from destroying our garbage corral and creating a huge mess (too much is not a problem).  Thank you for your cooperation to prevent damage and create sanitary community conditions.

Cardboard boxes can be placed next to the corral for pickup only on Fridays.
